Dear Fellow Dealers,
After receiving the TWU letter the other day I must tell you that I am afraid. As a single mother in these frightening financial times I haven't been able to get much sleep over the last few days, realizing that the people who wrote that letter have control of my future and my children's future. That letter opened my eyes about these people who are supposedly 'representing' us.
I blame myself and all of the others who did nothing over the last year and a half. I don't know if it was intimidation or just not wanting to make waves, but I have been silent all of this time. At first I was taken in with all of the promises about returned m oney and law suits. At one time I even believed that these union people had our best interest at heart. I now realize it is a business for them and they don't care at all about what happens to us. It is obvious that they have little power and are utterly unprofessional (see the letter dated 11/26/2008).
As I see friends of mine worrying about layoffs at jobs making about half of what we are making, I realize how lucky we are to be here. Thinking back over the last year and a half, the level of stress and discomfort seems to be tied directly to the union activity. In their letter they ask us to be patient, but after a year and a half of zero results and nothing on the horizon we must ask ourselves if this is what we really want? I'm not going to shout at you or call you names like they do, but I feel that now is the time for each of us to do some serious thinking about this matter. Although a lot of damage has already been done I still pray that we can stop any more from happening in the future. Think about a revote as an option, anyone who doesn't even want you to think or talk about it obviously doesn't care about what's best for you and your family. As a personal note I was very offended by the comments in the union letter regarding helping underprivileged children and implying that you can only help if you do it through the union. For years my daughters along with other dealers and their families have put together complete Christmases for needy families in the community without being told to by the union.
If you want answers and aren't sure who to believe start with the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) they work for you. Your tax dollars go to pay them and they are impartial on these matters their telephone number is 388-6416.
Thank you for your time. A dealer, who still feels intimidated enough to remain anonymous.
